Experiential Learning

At Wright State University, we recognize that each student is unique, and a one-size-fits-all approach is not always best for every student. As a student in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), you are not required to complete an internship or co-op experience as part of your degree; however, we do strongly encourage you to complete one or more internships or other relevant work experiences before graduation.

Internships and co-ops provide valuable hands-on experience and insight into real-world engineering practices. They provide you a competitive edge, as employers know you are prepared for the workforce. Think of it as your future employer’s guarantee that you know what the work entails and you can succeed.

Students often wonder what the difference is between an internship and a co-op experience. Although both experiences give you a chance to apply your skills and knowledge, internships are generally a shorter span of time, such as a summer, and a co-op experience usually lasts a year and is usually integrated into your academic studies. Students in a co-op experience might alternate between an academic semester and full-time work that enhances their studies, whereas an internship is completed without alternating between school and work.

Report Your Internship

When you participate in an internship, please log in and complete this form regarding your internship. This ensures there is a verified record of your internship both in our office and at your internship location. There are two options to choose from when registering for your internship:

1

Register your internship and gain class credit for it. If you are interested in this option, please contact your academic advisor.

2

Register your internship without gaining class credit for it.
