What activity do you love most at WSU?
I love so many activities at WSU, such as the engineering department and its many interesting clubs and events. Campus rec always has fun indoor and outdoor events. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try things outside of your major! WSU provides many opportunities and experiences. You might discover new interests.

What does it take to be a successful CECS student?
PATIENCE...and good communication! You might not like a class or be good at a particular subject in your major, but that doesn't mean that you don't like the field you've chosen. For example, I didn't exactly like Medical Imaging, but I still love the field that I chose!

What does it take to be a successful CECS student?
A good amount of creativity and different approaches to the same problem! At least in Computer Science, hard problems often have elegant solutions. You just need to find them!

What advice do you have for a new student entering the College of Engineering and Computer Science at WSU?
Get organized. Fill out your calendar, make lists, write everything down. EGR and CS are hard enough, make it easier on yourself. You’ll probably hear people tell you that college is what you make it, and I’ve found that to be especially true at Wright State. There are incredible opportunities here for growth and development, but you have to keep an open mind and take the initiative to try new things. Join clubs, go to events, look into Greek life, get a part-time job, etc.

What do you like most about the College of Engineering and Computer Science?
I love the environment that the students and faculty have created at Wright State. The faculty allows students to think creatively and critically, without discouraging differences in thought among students. As an engineering student, being able to be in an environment that encourages innovative thinking is something that should be taken for granted!

What do you like most about CECS?
All of the caring faculty make sure we’re learning things that will help us later in our careers.
What does it take to be successful as a CECS student?
Put in the work necessary for each and every one of your classes. Aside from everything else, you’re a student first, and if you’re passionate about your classes, professors will take notice.

What advice do you have for first-year students in the College of Engineering & Computer Science?
My advice for CECS freshmen is to stay focused. Set goals for yourself, and have at least one big goal to achieve by graduation. Always be striving to achieve those goals and always be pushing forward. It can be easy to get distracted and fall behind. I recommend setting weekly goals to make sure you're constantly working towards larger goals. You'll be amazed at how much you can get done in one week.

What do you like most about the College of Engineering and Computer Science?
I love how intertwined a lot of the majors are with each other! You won’t find a computer engineer who doesn’t at least understand the basics of programming or a computer science major who hasn’t taken a couple of circuit classes. Making friends is much easier knowing you share some of the same experiences.

What does it take to be a successful CECS student?
I feel it takes passion for the topics. It doesn't take much to be successful when you have passion, but when you don't it seems impossible. I promise you it's not, just keep working until you find your passion. Once you find that, don't let go - everything goes faster when you enjoy your learning!
Should you be a current CECS student that is interested in developing your leadership skills, enhancing your public speaking abilities and developing a rich network of professional and personal relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community leaders in the select group of prestigious students, you can contact Dani Heeter at danielle.heeter@wright.edu.
