ACM 11th Annual Programming Contest

ACM 11th Annual Programming Contest

The ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) held its 11th Annual Programming contest on Saturday October 18, 2014. Each year the club holds the contest attendance grows and this year was no exception. We had over 100 students attend ranging from freshmen to graduate students participate. Which resulted in the classrooms being used slowly filling with balloons as the teams completed the problems.

The programming contest is a chance for all students to test their programming skills during the three hour event. Students are placed in teams of two or three. They can have already formed their team before check in, however it is not necessary as teams are also assigned at check in for those that need it. The winners are determined by the number of problems that they solve in the three hour time frame. Then by penalty points in the case of a tie. The winning team then goes on to the Regional contest to compete for Wright State University.

First place this year went to team 56 Paul Conrady, Matthew Weber, and Donovan Guilfoyle with five correct answers. Second Place was team 23 Wiehan Boshoff, Sean Magee, and Hamza Abdel-Latif with four correct answers. The freshman winning team was Michael Partin, Alexandrea Oliver, and Quinten Oliver who also answered 4 questions correctly. Each team received prizes that were provided by Reynolds and Reynolds who sponsor the event.

This event could not have happened without the planning and coordination of the ACM club and its faculty advisor Mr. Ondrasek.
