Cutting Edge Research in Data and Web Semantics

Data Semantics (DaSe) Lab members Michelle Cheatham, David Carral, Adila Krisnadhi, Raghava Mutharaju (from left to right)

The Department's Data Semantics (DaSe) Lab, co-led by Drs. Michelle Cheatham and Pascal Hitzler, had significant presence at the 13th International Semantic Web Conference , which was held in Riva del Garda, Italy, 19th to 23rd of October 2014. The annual conference is the world leading event on Data and World Wide Web Semantics and typically draws over 600 researchers each year.

DaSe Lab members presented or were co-authors of a total of 10 scientific publications presented at the conference or at satellite events, including a nomination for the conference best student paper award for David Carral's collaborative work with researchers from the University of Oxford, UK. PhD student Raghava Mutharaju was one of the presenters of a conference tutorial on Large-Scale Reasoning over Semantic Data which he presented in collaboration with researchers from England, Scotland and China.

Michelle Cheatham or Pascal Hitzler were also Program Committee members of several tracks of the conference, including the Research Track, the In-Use Track, the Posters and Demos Track, and the Doctoral Consortium, and several workshops. PhD student Adila Krisnadhi was Program Committee member of the Workshop on Ontology and Semantic Web Patterns, and both he and PhD student Raghava Mutharaju were Program Committee members of the 10th International Workshop on Scalable Semantic Web Knowledge Base Systems.

Drs. Hitzler and Cheatham furthermore were the PIs on an NSF student support grant which funded travel of US-based students, from all over the United States, to the conference.
