New prep course Cyber Security

CS 5300, 5301, 5302, 5303 Computing Systems and Structures: Preparation towards Graduate Studies for Computing Professionals

What is this course? This course is designed for computing professionals that do not have a degree or minor in computer science and that do have a minimum of at least three years of software development experience in the workplace. Students with practical computing experience that successfully complete this course will be ready to enter into graduate studies in computing.

Am I ready for this course? This course requires students to have a four-year degree in any field from an accredited University and a minimum of at least three years of professional software development experience in any language or platform. Students are expected to already know the basic concepts, terms, and skills involved in computer programming.

Distance Education

This proficiency course is delivered and assessed in an entirely on-line format. There are no scheduled classroom meeting times or on-site examinations. All class experiences are delivered through the "Pilot" web site. Students enrolled in this online distance education bridge course are expected to demonstrate the maturity in learning necessary to succeed in graduate-level course work.

Grading structure

This course is a pass/fail course - it does not count as credit hours towards a program of graduation. It is designed only to provide a pathway for working professionals to gain/demonstrate proficiency with the minimal subset of computer science systems and structures concepts necessary to enter into graduate studies.

Course format

Each week of the course has two primary components: [1] a reading assignment generally 2-5 chapters each week), [2] an on-line quiz. The reading assignment for the "week" will be released on the weekend BEFORE the week begins. The quiz for the "week" can be taken anytime during the week or the weekend that follows. Each quiz can be attempted only one time. The quizzes are two hours in duration and are open book/open notes. There should be plenty of time to do the quiz IF you have completed and understand the reading assignment BEFORE starting the quiz.

How do I get started? Students can apply to a graduate program by completing an online application with the Graduate School. Information on university requirements are located on the Graduate school website.

Students can also apply as non-degree graduate students by completing the Graduate Nondegree and Transient Application and turning the application into the Graduate School. After successful course completion, formal application to the Cyber Security graduate program would be required for students entering the university as non-degree.

How much will this course cost? Graduate tuition fees are $564 per credit hour

Please contact Wendy Chetcuti at wendy.chetcuti@wright.edu with admission questions.

How is this course different than taking the undergraduate courses to meet the requirements? Traditional undergraduate course equivalences would require 10 undergraduate semester hours and 3 semesters to complete whereas this course is completed in one summer semester.
